Perdition's Mouth - Revised Edition

Created by Timo Multamäki @ Arctic Union

This is not your typical dungeon crawl. Unique intuitive and Euro-style mechanics that support deep tactical and strategic decisions combined with strong co-operation and a dark and deeply emmersive theme put Perdition’s Mouth in its own category. Widely praised for its gameplay and uniqueness by players of the first edition. The game designers of Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift (Timo Multamäki, Thomas Klausner and Kevin Wilson) set out to implement a new kind of dungeon crawl. One that embraces the European school of game design with clever mechanisms which emphasizes strategy while minimizing luck. Cooperation, planning and the enemy response deck eliminate the need for chucking dice, creating a tense combat environment with meaningful decisions! The rondels provide another tactical layer, including the enemy’s devious and challenging AI. We are doing a second printing of the original Perdition’s Mouth board game! This will be a Revised Edition, meaning error corrections and new content, but no changes to the fine-tuned gameplay we all love. So fans that missed the first campaign can join the fight against the Cult. And those having the first print can sign in for an Upgrade Pack.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Olazabal’s Singing
over 5 years ago – Sat, Jul 13, 2019 at 12:09:38 AM

They say it isn’t over until the fat lady sings. If that’s true, then one short, bearded, fat lady must be singing now. We mentioned in our last update that we’d finished fulfilment except for some late stragglers. Thanks to that update, most of those stragglers contacted us and we’ve now resolved all the outstanding issues bar one individual, who we’ve tried contacting several times. If you still think you’re waiting for something then please contact us without delay. If we still haven’t heard from you by 15th August (one month from now) then we will assume that all orders are delivered. We have to set a deadline somewhere for our own sanity!

Since the games have shipped, we’ve seen several more reviews of the game appear. House of Games and Gioconomicon both covered the game in Italian, ZnadPlansy posted a review in Polish and Game Night Magazine covered the game in English. It’s not just reviews, either, as pro-painter sashepher3 has been painting up a full set of Perdition’s Mouth miniatures - including some from current and future expansions (yes, that means Soul Spire). You can see his Demon below and find his other photos on his Instagram page.

If you’ve started playing, we’ve posted a campaign flowchart to help you navigate the dungeon and we’d love to hear from anyone who’s finished a campaign. How many of your heroes made it out alive? Reach out to us via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. IF you’ve finished your game and you’re looking for more content (particularly if you live down under) - or know of a friend who wants to get in on the action - remember that we have a massive sale on in our AU store, after our distributor did a stock-take that surprised all of us.

So Olazábal must have made it out alive, if she’s singing, right? Well, of course, that’s not the only thing she has to sing about. You probably know that we have a new game on Kickstarter - Dwarf

Dwarf is small-box, short worker-placement game for 1-3 players (or up to five by combining two copies of the game). It’s set in Zanziar, the same world as Perdition’s Mouth, about 500 years before the events in Abyssal Rift, and sees the players work for the good of dwarven society, protecting their mines and homes from marauding enemies. Or acting selfishly and seeking to acquire wealth, relying on their comrades to protect their resources.

The tension provided by the need to cooperate in a competitive game provides a lot of fun and interesting decisions for game groups of different types and personalities. It’s also something we haven’t seen before in a game. Neither is the evolving nature of the board, which changes on every turn and makes for a tactical, rather than a strategic, worker-placement game. Playing out in 30-40 minutes it would make a great filler before or after Perdition’s Mouth, for a themed game evening. It also works as a short week-night solo game, with different difficulties of AI provided out of the box.

We’re really pleased that the game has already funded. We’re running a short campaign, though, and although it’s only been live for two days, it ends in just fourteen days’ time. Please do have a look at the Kickstarter page and consider backing.

Next game set to Zanziar & Aussie supersale
over 5 years ago – Mon, Jun 24, 2019 at 02:58:20 AM

Summer is at hand in the Northern hemisphere, which means that cooler winter days prevail in Australia to provide prime board gaming time. Due to various complications, including some very weird discrepancies on stock counts, we need to radically change our Aussie store. So you will now find some of the lowest prices ever seen on all products in our Aussie store. Note that Witch’s grotto is also available in Deluxe and Gamer’s Bundles and is very unlikely to be available in the foreseeable future.

1st Edition Perdition’s Mouth wipeout:

  • First edition Perdition’s Mouth: retail, only 69 AUD!
  • Deluxe Perdition’s Mouth (with the much coveted Witch’s Grotto) + free Mogba’gh bundle (1st edition) 129 AUD
  • Perdition’s Mouth: Gamer’s Bundle, 149 AUD
  • Victim #1, 4 copies, 8 AUD each
  • Victim #2, 11 copies, 10 AUD each
  • Portcullis & levers: 1st edition, 13 AUD
  • Hero trait deck, 10 copies, 6 AUD

Other sale items:

  • Black Hat Kickstarter (yes, KS!, the very last KS copies anywhere), only 5 copies, 45 AUD each
  • Black Hat standard,  25 AUD each
  • Perdition’s Mouth: Hideout (boxed expansion) 39 AUD
  • Phantom League: Ultimate collection 69 AUD, (including free Pilot Academy)
  • Perdition’s Mouth: Revised Edition, 149 AUD

Normal shipping costs and prices are valid provided everything is sold or we are able to find a new warehouse in Australia or New Zealand. So, if you have suggestions for a distribution or retail partner on that area, we’d love to learn.

What about the people in the Northern hemisphere?

We’ve not forgotten you! You’ll find quite a few sales there and more will be added after inventory counts are completed in the EU and US stores.

D-Day is getting closer......
Dwarf by Lee Broderick is set in the same Zanziar world as Perdition’s Mouth and is slated to Kickstart on 9th July 6PM UTC!
Dwarf is available in a variety of online versions to test and enjoy (PnP@BGG, Tabletopia, Tabletop Simulator) with advanced prototype artwork. Played on a dynamic board and featuring emergent cooperative elements, Dwarf is a competitive worker-placement and resource management game for one to three players, or one to five by integrating two copies.

Thanks to the diligent playtesters we have now improved the rules and artwork and changed to symbols instead of text on most of the  cards, thus decreasing the language dependence considerably.

We’re also thrilled to announce that the official rules guide video will be made by Greg “Stikfa-mation” Cornell and will be in a similar style as for the Darwinning rulebook

See you in Kickstarter in less than three weeks!

The print proofs of cards are on the way by DHL and are supposed to arrive by mid next week. All English materials have been submitted. We’re still trying to solve a few problems due to  the Spanish and German languages being longer in text than English and therefore making it tricky fitting to a few of the scenarios in PMCH.

The promised ambience track (by Ahti Nykänen) is also ready and will be sent within June! We will provide two versions of this twelve minute track, one for the climax of the scenario and one for general mood. As always, we’d love to get feedback on the track.

We are still well on schedule: You will receive your copy in October 2019 as promised, which also means that you’ll also see a full version of Perdition’s Mouth: Cannibal’s Howl in Essen Spiel. You’ll find us at Essen Spiel at booth 2-B101 by our favourite sleeve provider Ultimate Guard.

The last PM:RE update - with glimpses of the future
over 5 years ago – Thu, Apr 18, 2019 at 04:58:16 PM

Perdition’s Mouth fans,

The very last pledge for the Perdition’s Mouth: Revised Edition campaign has left the warehouse. We’re deeply sorry that a few Canadian backers had to wait a few months longer than pretty much anyone else. There were a few problems with the manufacturing and logistics, but eventually those were cleared out. We have now closed the Backerkit of PM:RE project.

We’d like to thank each of you.

If you’d like to get your own copy of PM:RE or the upgrade kit from PM:AR to PM:RE, we have some copies in our regional webshops (USA, EU and Australia).

The localized (German, Italian and Spanish) upgrade kits are on 20% sale. The sale requires this code: upgrade20off

 Queridos amigos,

Cannibal’s Howl is about to enter production and is on schedule. You can still get your copy using the pre-order feature of PMCH Backerkit and it’s available in three languages (English, German and Spanish).

Cannibal’s Howl offers a very different set of scenarios, intended for lower player and hero counts, it brings the much coveted Cannibal Shaman, Mogba’gh, that was sold out some years ago back inyo availability. The latest addition to PM:CH is the shark miniatures, which are something of a mix between an enemy and an ally.

We have the sharks being painted (by two painters) and you'll find those from Instagram soon.

The Cannibal’s Howl campaign also brought back the earlier sold out Doors & Chests, Portcullis & levers and Victim miniature sets. Now better than ever - using composite resin to provide more detail and durability. These miniature sets are available from our EU webstore and the PM:CH backerkit.

Our next game, Dwarf, will be set in the Zanziar, the same world as Perdition’s Mouth (although several hundred years before the events in PM). It’s a highly tactical, quick-playing worker placement game played on a dynamic board. Although it has emergent co-operative elements, at its heart it is a competitive game and the Multamäki family, as well as several players at Airecon, have commented that it can be ‘a nasty little game’ if that’s how you want to play it!
We’re hoping to have the game at UKGE for demoing but in the meantime, we have made the game available on TTS and we’ll soon also upload an art-free version to BGG for those that like to pnp. It’s for 1-3 players, or up to five by combining two copies.
Following demo’ing at Airecon we’ve made some changes to the graphic design and also added more art. We felt it was important that the graphic design changes, in particular, were made for the preview copies and these are now being sent out to previewers. The kickstarter campaign will launch in early summer (but not on 7th May, as previously suggested, as the previewers need time with the game).

Consider joining the mailchimp mailing list for Dwarf.

The story of Perdition's Mouth will continue in Soul Spire. That will provide advanced rules with widely varying scenarios, three playable factions, all having different story path. The current aim is to have this in Kickstarter in late 2019 or early 2020, but that depends on playtesting. We would be very interested of experienced Perdition's Mouth players who would like to play test Soul Spire. If you are interested, send us an email.

You might also want to join in the mailing list of Perdition's Mouth to get the latest news. We are also sharing the art, miniature sculpts, painted miniature images and such in our Instagram.

Double update: Q1 / 2019 news flash
over 5 years ago – Fri, Mar 01, 2019 at 04:04:38 PM

Dear backers,

We don’t normally do “double updates”. Everything that’s here concerns backers of Cannibal’s Howl and the Revised Edition of Perdition’s Mouth, however, so you will see this update in your feed for both projects if you backed both.

Revised Edition News

The Revised Edition Kickstarter’s fulfilment is really close to being done and over with. There are two full pledges that remain to be fulfilled to Canada and two to the UK. All of these are waiting for Upgrade Kits (English) to reach Europe. Due to the logistics hassle we ended up having way too many English Upgrades in USA and, therefore, too few in Germany. We expect these still taking weeks, as ships sail slowly over the big pond.

The German edition of PM:RE is close nearly  sold out, which is really positive. It helped that the Cannibal’s Howl Spieleschmiede went well and is, infact, already partially fulfilled as all the materials except Cannibal’s Howl itself have been delivered to Happy Shops.

Revised Edition has gotten a lot of positive reviews, most recently from Game Nite Magazine - But we always think we could have more. If your favourite reviewer hasn’t covered PM:RE yet, you can always ask them to approach us.

The wooden inserts are now sent even in Australia. If you have received one, you really should read David’s update BEFORE doing anything else with it, to avoid mistakes.

The Cannibal will howl in Spanish, too!

The Spanish version of Cannibal’s Howl is coming! It’ll be run on the Verkami platform and you can find it here. Launch of the Verkami campaign is set for Wednesday the 6th of March 2019. It’s run by our marvellous Spanish team;

  • Veronica
  • Jose Antonio
  • Ruyman
  • Gerardo

Whom you can contact collectively via [email protected] and converse in Spanish. We’ve also made a Spanish version of DDP Facebook, we’d love to meet you there.

Cannibal schedule

We’ve completed all the art and most of the scenarios are ready and are now, basically, waiting to see how the Verkami campaign ends up. We’ll then send the files to production when the result of that campaign is known. As we said previously, we will not produce any parts of Cannibal’s Howl in China. This is more expensive but saves 5-6 weeks of transit time and an immeasurable amount of headaches. If there are real troubles, with a factory in Europe we can just take a plane and fly there to find out what is the problem.

If you missed the Cannibal’s Howl project, you can still join in using the pre-order store.

Preview of the Cannibal’s Howl maps, below, by Jamie Noble.

Some people have asked us when we are going to close the backerkit for PM:CH. We have done that for some, already, as we shipped the base games to those backers who diligently completed their surveys. For everyone else, it’ll be some time during March (this month). The precise date will be announced soon.

Join the team?

We’ve posted invitations before  and, practically every time, someone has been interested, so here goes…

  • We need someone with experience in social networks and marketing. It seems that our current team is too old, nerdy, inward looking or just plain weird that we have too little experience to effectively work this out. Instragram, in particular, is vastly under used and we have plenty of pretty pictures to show.
  • We’d also appreciate if anyone in USA has legal skills. We have, sadly, a case where “a distributor” stole a large shipment of our products and has failed to pay them for almost two years. Even if we wouldn’t ever get money or our products back, we should warn the community and that takes some local knowledge.

Even if you can’t help with these specific tasks but you would still like to contribute, please do contact us.

Dwarf - the next game

Played on a dynamic board and featuring emergent cooperative elements, Dwarf is a competitive worker-placement and resource management game for one to three players, or one to five by integrating two copies. It’s be demoed at AireCon 8th to 10th March!

Thematically Dwarf takes place in the same world of Zanziar, where Perdition’s Mouth resides.

Email lists

Remember to join to our mailing lists of your choice. If you have already opted to join in Backerkit, no need to do it again, we will automatically add you the lists you requested. We send mail very rarely, typically about twice a year per list.

February 2019 update - probably the 2nd to last update
almost 6 years ago – Mon, Feb 18, 2019 at 01:41:05 PM

Dear backers,

The Revised Edition campaign is nearing its end. As I’m writing this, fewer than 20 pledges have outstanding issues. You may still be interested in what we have to say though, so please read on..

The state of fulfilment

The Wooden inserts have arrived EU and US warehouses and the remaining units are being shipped this week. Australian backers will have to wait a little longer as we need to consider how best to ship their pledges. Due to a mistake in logistics, there are no inserts in Australia and that creates a small dilemma. We have now packed the inserts in Germany and those are being shipped from Germany to Australia within the next 14 days.

All Australian shipments are shipped, but without the aforementioned wooden inserts.

The PMCH pre-order store is open and PM:CH backerkit for backers, too. If you missed the Cannibal’s Howl campaign when it was on Kickstarter, you can join in now via the pre-order store. Perdition’s Mouth: Cannibal’s Howl will bring two new maps (A3 size) and will be a boxed upgrade - we learned from Traitor Guard that even if saving you money by not producing an expensive box for an expansion is good, it’s much harder for warehouses and logistics and thus doesn’t save anything in the end.

  •  German version? Yes, it’s coming. In fact, the existing material and the miniature sets have already been provided to Happy Shops. If you backed the Kickstarter and want to change to the German version, contact us during February.
  •  Spanish version? Yes, it’s coming, too! We’ll run a campaign to get Cannibal’s Howl in Spanish on Verkami. Expect it to launch this month (February 2019)!  If you backed the Kickstarter and want to change to the Spanish version, contact us during March.

We have finally got hold of the missing cards for correcting the infamous 9 cards fiasco (only affecting backers who have the upgrade kit and scenario pack). We have added the 9 cards as a free and weightless addition to PM:CH orders for backers who backed both campaigns. Those backers who did not back the other campaign will find a letter in their mailbox within the next 3 weeks. If you have NOT backed PM:CH and are still missing the 9-cards at the end of March, please contact me directly.

We’re expanding our reach

Many people have suggested we should try to increase our global reach. We’ve tried our very best and we’re happy to report a few important additions.

  • We have found a partner from South Africa! Fanaticus games will have our games very soon - they’re already on their way! We’re really pleased about this as SA fans have suffered with really expensive shipping.
  • We have also (finally) got our whole product portfolio to Coolstuffinc. That should help our fans in the US.
  • Malaysian fans will be happy to hear that Vivae Enterprise now carry our products there.

Painted miniatures

We’re STILL updating the painting guide to have all of the latest miniatures. We’ve also worked with some new  professional painters. We’re garnishing the painting guide now with selected pictures of our miniatures from these painters. Below you’ll see Torc’s painted versions of our miniatures.

Insane DDP Tour 2018 backerkit

This is also open and has a separate pre-order store in case you missed it. It contains all of our products that are not related to Perdition’s Mouth.

Where do you find us in the near future?

We’ll be actively participating varyious upcoming conventions.

  • 16-02-2019 Demonstration at Librería Draco in Granada
  • 22-02-2019 Demonstration at Dune Comics in Granada
  • 23 to 24-02-2019 Hispania Wargames event in Malaga
  • 08 to 10-03-2019 AireCon, in UK
  • 08 to 10-03-2019 Brussels Game Expo
  • 14 to 17-03-2019 LeiriaCon in Portugal

We’d love to find fans willing to present our games in USA and Australia. If you’re interested, do let us know!

As you can see, it’ll be a busy spring 2019 for us. But we like busy.
