Perdition's Mouth - Revised Edition

Created by Timo Multamäki @ Arctic Union

This is not your typical dungeon crawl. Unique intuitive and Euro-style mechanics that support deep tactical and strategic decisions combined with strong co-operation and a dark and deeply emmersive theme put Perdition’s Mouth in its own category. Widely praised for its gameplay and uniqueness by players of the first edition. The game designers of Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift (Timo Multamäki, Thomas Klausner and Kevin Wilson) set out to implement a new kind of dungeon crawl. One that embraces the European school of game design with clever mechanisms which emphasizes strategy while minimizing luck. Cooperation, planning and the enemy response deck eliminate the need for chucking dice, creating a tense combat environment with meaningful decisions! The rondels provide another tactical layer, including the enemy’s devious and challenging AI. We are doing a second printing of the original Perdition’s Mouth board game! This will be a Revised Edition, meaning error corrections and new content, but no changes to the fine-tuned gameplay we all love. So fans that missed the first campaign can join the fight against the Cult. And those having the first print can sign in for an Upgrade Pack.

We have a problem (OK, a few)
over 5 years ago – Sat, Nov 17, 2018 at 02:08:23 PM

Hello again. We don’t speak for ages and then twice in as many days, right?

Well, as more people have received their games now, we want to go into a bit more detail about some of the issues.

First, we need to address something that we mentioned in an update back in April but which many people have (understandably) forgotten about. We should have mentioned this yesterday but it slipped my mind, too. The small (response) cards that are meant to be in the scenario pack actually got put in the base game box by the packers at the factory. This means that if you ordered the scenario pack and the base game, you have the cards - just not where you’d expect to find them. If you ordered the scenario pack without the base game, you do not have the cards. This is a problem which we’re currently unable to rectify, for now, we can offer these cards as a download, for home printing, here.

We’re unable to rectify this because we do not have the spare parts we ordered. In fact, as the various warehouses do their respective stock takes, it’s becoming clear that we do not even have the full number of the various products we ordered. With one significant exception, this shouldn’t affect you - we have enough copies to fulfill pre-orders - but does leave a hole in our pocket and will make the game more scarce at retail unless we can get the manufacturer to produce the products we ordered.

It may affect you if you ordered the Italian upgrade kit. Currently, we cannot locate any stock of this or of its associated spare parts beyond the three copies we had shipped to Essen. We’re chasing the manufacturer for an answer and will let you know when we do.

Around 13-14% of Hideout (ENG) and Scenario pack (ENG) expansions have one scenario sheet transposed. The sheets concerned are HO3 and SP3. We have already agreed with the manufacturer that they will provide extra sheets to cover for this and we will send them on as soon as they are ready. In the meantime, we will make the two scenarios available as pdfs to any backers who want them, within the next two weeks.

The wooden insert problems should be resolved with an extra correction sheet that is currently being put together. This will take time to produce and arrive at our warehouses but we feel certain you’d rather wait for a product that actually works than receive one now that doesn’t. So any orders including wooden inserts will be dispatched when we have the corrected inserts.

The painted miniatures are expected to arrive at our EU warehouse next week. Any orders including painted miniatures (and not including the wooden insert) will ship as soon as we receive those.

Spanish, Serbian, Israeli, South-African and Japanese orders will be shipped early next week. Sorry for the delay.

If you have received your order and find any missing or broken content when you unpack it then please contact us by email at [email protected]. We’ll try to resolve any problems quickly and to your satisfaction. We’re also working on a guide to let you know exactly what the upgrade pack replaces from the first edition - we should have already done this and it’s an oversight on our part, so thanks for your patience.

I think that covers everything.

To those of you that have received your games and have posted to tell us that you have and that they’re OK, thankyou. We really appreciate that gesture.

Shipping

All our fulfillment centers are working hard on getting this out the door to you. It took longer than expected to clear customs, in Germany, but EU fulfilment has now started. In fact, it’s over halfway through and we have heard that some people have their games already.

In the US, the games have arrived at the warehouse and Quartermaster ran their final checks yesterday. So we’re expecting US fulfilment to begin today.

AU is a little behind the others but we heard from Aetherworks, this morning, that the pallets have arrived. They’re going to get sorting through what they’ve got and where it’s got to go but we think AU shipping will begin next week, at the latest.

We’re still trying to get our heads around the impacts of tradewars and trade agreements but, due to rapidly changing logistics and availability, we’ve had to change the fulfilment source for a few orders.. This concerns mostly backers from South-America and the Far East and will see orders ship from Germany, rather than Australia.

Packing Problems, Further Delays and a Surprise

If you follow Tinsku’s ‘blog, or if you supported their rather difficult Quickstarter campaign, you’ll know that she and Timo spent a couple of days at Happy Shops trying to sort out the delivery before shipping began. First, there’s some good news to emerge from this - it seems there were a few bits and bobs with our name on at the warehouse that Happy Shops weren’t sure of. The Multamäkis were able to piece these together into a (very) few sets of the now much sought-after Witch’s Grotto expansion. We’ve added this to our EU store and haven’t announced it anywhere as we wanted you to be the first to know. If you want one though, you’ll have to be quick.

Less happy news was also discovered at our warehouse, though. First, it seems that we have not received the spare parts we ordered. Hopefully, this shouldn’t affect you but you should be aware that if there are any problems with your game then it may take us longer than we’d like to be able to help. Second, it seems that there are multiple packing errors. In particular, it seems that something like 13-14% of English Hideout and Scenario expansions have a scenario sheet transposed. If we’re lucky, many of these sets will end up in the hands of people that ordered both and can ‘solve’ the problem themselves but some won’t and, either way, we’re not happy about it. We’re working with our manufacturers to try and find a resolution that’s acceptable to us - and you - and will let you know this in due course.

We also seem to be missing almost all of the Italian upgrade packs and many of the victim #3 miniatures. We’re hoping we find them, soon.

Finally, getting all the bad news over in one go. Two of our team picked up their wooden inserts directly and have assembled them. In doing this, they’ve discovered a couple of flaws that we’re working with Basically Wooden to resolve. Order including wooden inserts will not ship until we’ve resolved these issues - we know this is a premium product and we feel sure you’d rather it was right than rushed. We are also still waiting for Ukko to finish painting the miniatures, so orders containing painted miniatures will also not ship yet. These will all be delivered to our German warehouse, probably next week and EU orders containing painted miniatures will follow shortly after. Painted miniatures going to the US will be sent from our German warehouse to our US one and US shipments will begin after that transfer.

Actually Playing Games!

Leaving kickstarter stuff and the vulgar side of the hobby, just for a moment. It’s nice to be reminded of why we do this and Hit Points Gaming have uploaded the third video in their Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift campaign. Spoiler - they don’t do well. You can watch the video here and tell them where they went wrong in the YouTube comments.

Cannibal’s Howl

Finally, trying to end on a happy note - if you’ve already joined us over on the Perdition’s Mouth: Cannibal’s Howl campaign, then thankyou. We’ve got off to a brilliant start, sailing past funding in 74 minutes and knocking out five stretch goals in the first 48 hours. We’ve now added a new map to the pack, as well, and it’s shaping up to be a really exciting addition to the game.

As you may know, this expansion includes Mogba’gh, a hero some of you already have. It’s much more than that though, as the mention of a new map should demonstrate. In fact, even the Mogba’gh miniature is new - oh, and, speaking of new miniatures, we’ve also made chest and door miniatures available in the campaign and these, too, are a new design, different from the ones we produced in the past.

If you’re worried about having two different Mogba’gh minis, or you don’t want two sets of hero cards, and you don’t want to back for that reason, we’re going to make any scenarios which use the base game maps available as pdf downloads to all backers - even at the minimum pledge level. Hopefully, though, you’ll be as excited as we are by the new content we’re producing and join us for the full Perdition’s Mouth: Cannibal’s Howl experience.

We need your help - extracurricular Quickstarter campaign
over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 06, 2018 at 01:27:45 PM

Friends and backers,

This message is not about your game, we have no further news on that front.

While I was drafting yesterday’s update, over the weekend, the Multamäki family were sat on the side of the road in Germany. I’ve mentioned their European tour several times in these updates and many of you have met them at the various conventions and boardgame club nights they’ve attended in 2018.

During that time they’ve suffered many setbacks, from broken car parts to the issues of handling production (and production errors) whilst on the road. All while living together, working together, and home-schooling in a caravan. It must have been very tough at times but now, with just two conventions left and little more than a month to go before they’re to turn the key in their front door and sleep in a proper bed again, the worst has happened.

Their car has broken and they’re stuck. Having already exhausted all their savings due to all the other issues in the last 10 months, they’re in need of every bit of help they can get and, this morning, they’ve launched a Quickstarter campaign to try and get some of the money they need to replace their car. With that, they’ll meet their final commitments - attending Spielwiesn and DAU - and be able to get home.

This isn’t a campaign we or they ever anticipated running and we’d hope we never have to again. If you can donate anything to their campaign, or even just share it with your friends, they’d really appreciate it.

Lee.
