Perdition's Mouth - Revised Edition

Created by Timo Multamäki @ Arctic Union

This is not your typical dungeon crawl. Unique intuitive and Euro-style mechanics that support deep tactical and strategic decisions combined with strong co-operation and a dark and deeply emmersive theme put Perdition’s Mouth in its own category. Widely praised for its gameplay and uniqueness by players of the first edition. The game designers of Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift (Timo Multamäki, Thomas Klausner and Kevin Wilson) set out to implement a new kind of dungeon crawl. One that embraces the European school of game design with clever mechanisms which emphasizes strategy while minimizing luck. Cooperation, planning and the enemy response deck eliminate the need for chucking dice, creating a tense combat environment with meaningful decisions! The rondels provide another tactical layer, including the enemy’s devious and challenging AI. We are doing a second printing of the original Perdition’s Mouth board game! This will be a Revised Edition, meaning error corrections and new content, but no changes to the fine-tuned gameplay we all love. So fans that missed the first campaign can join the fight against the Cult. And those having the first print can sign in for an Upgrade Pack.

Box of Treasures
over 6 years ago – Wed, Nov 29, 2017 at 11:50:33 PM

First of all, thanks for voting for the treasures in the poll on BGG. In case you haven’t seen the result, you chose to include Dusty Vial and Codex in the revised edition of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift.

Dusty Vial (All classes) (Consumable)

As you open the vial, tendrils of light feel their way out, swirling around you and forcing their way into you.

On this turn only, you can take special actions in addition to any other actions you could normally take.

Codex (All classes) (Consumable)

Reap what you sow - crops must be thinned to get the best yield and this codex helps you see that the same is true of your abilities.

A hero of your choice can place 1 hero card from its discard pile on top of its draw deck.

We thought all the shortlisted treasures were good and some of them may still end up making their way into the game at a later date but right now we’re pleased to add these items to our treasure decks and we’re looking forward to seeing what they look like when Matthias illustrates them.

Now, some news that some of you have been waiting for since early in the campaign - we can finally share some pictures of the custom wooden insert, designed by Basically Wooden, with you. We think Andrew’s done a fantastic job. The product isn’t quite finalised yet - each individual section, for example, will have its contents laser-etched onto it in the Perdition’s Mouth font and sections containing miniatures will have the lids lined with foam to make sure that they stay secure and protected from any knocks.

The insert in all its in-development glory.

We were always confident that Andrew would match the quality of design and manufacture that we demand of our game components and we’re really excited to be able to share these pictures with you now. If you didn’t pledge for this add-on during the campaign and you’re regretting that fact now don’t worry - you will be able to get one of these in Backerkit for US$59 (don’t forget you’ll also need to get a second box, for US$12, to house it all). After that they’ll only be available directly from Basically Wooden for a slightly higher price.

That’s about all we have to share with you this week but rest assured that playtesting of the new scenarios you unlocked is progressing well, with some of these now reaching a state where we’re happy to call them finished. As we mentioned last week we’re particularly keen to hear from you if you think you could help with the Italian translations.

Dawn of the Peacemakers
Dawn of the Peacemakers

Before we go, we wanted to mention that some of our friends and fellow Finnish game developers, Snow Dale Design, have a project on Kickstarter right now. Dawn of the Peacemakers is an unusual cooperative, narrative strategy game, set in the world of Dale of Merchants. The players want to keep two armies from fighting and bring peace to the land. The scenarios are connected by a story, and the game comes with a lot of very fine miniatures. The project is into its final 48 hours so don’t delay in checking it out!

Our message to you next week should contain details of how to access Backerkit, which is on target for the 6th December, as we promised. There were a few backers who had some trouble with Kickstarter processing their card payments. We've tried emailing you if it looks like you were affected and many of these problems have now been resolved - if that includes you thankyou for helping us sorting it out. If you haven't got back to us yet please don't delay much longer - if it's not resolved before Backerkit launches we won't be able to send you your login details.

Treasure Trove
over 6 years ago – Thu, Nov 23, 2017 at 04:23:02 PM

We’re still buoyed by the terrific ending to our campaign on Saturday - thanks again for helping to make the Revised Edition of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift possible and making all the maps available for the first time. We’re busy playtesting the new scenarios you unlocked at the moment and we’re having a lot of fun doing it. Without giving anything away about what may or may not end up in the final versions there are some interesting new twists in the scenarios we’re developing right now. These should appeal to seasoned veterans of the game as well as new players.

We’re also progressing with less glamourous behind the scenes tasks like preparing Backerkit and graphic design of the revised edition components - both of which we mentioned we were doing in previous updates during the campaign. Progress with the translations you unlocked is also continuing apace. As you know, we’re an open team and always respond to anyone who feels like they could help us with particular skills or enthusiasm. Right now, we’d particularly appreciate help proofreading the Italian translations - if that sounds like something you might be interested in then let us know.

All that glitters.
All that glitters.

In all the excitement of hitting so many stretch goals on the final day it might have been easy to miss the social media goal you unlocked. We didn’t miss it though! As well as the tasks above we’ve come up with some ideas for new treasure cards and we’ve now put these - together with some submitted by you - into a BGG poll.

Go visit the poll now and vote on which you’d like to see included in the game. The poll will stay open until Monday 27th November and we’ll announce the winners (two will be selected for production) in next week’s update.

The last 24h with UPGRADED SG list!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Nov 21, 2017 at 12:01:16 AM

We've achieved a great deal already. We have listened to the wise feedback you've given. Yet, we want to give you even more, so we’ve revised the stretch goals based on your feedback.

We said there’d be plenty more media content this week and, hot on the heels of Slickerdrips’s playthrough and thoughts a couple of days ago, comes MarcoWargamer’s review and a great interview of our CEO Tiinaliisa at Essen Spiel by our great friend Paco of GMS Magazine. Check those out and share all with your friends. And the DDP blog that GMS review mentions is here.

As I write this you’re at US$80960. The next stretch goal is for US$82,500, a mere 1,5k  US$ away. That is now for two more scenarios AND maps! Go get it!

A Double Whammy
over 6 years ago – Tue, Nov 21, 2017 at 12:01:13 AM

Are you enjoying the final day? We are, you’ve already knocked out 2 (TWO!) stretch goals. First, you unlocked the the additional double-sided game board, featuring two additional maps, which came with two scenarios, one for playing on each of the maps. This is huge. You’ve made us all so happy. It was a big disappointment for DDP that we weren’t able to include this in the 1st edition of the game as it featured in the campaign as it was written. For the first time, you can now experience the campaign as it was always intended!

Next, you hit another stretch goal, for two more scenarios. These are for the two maps you just unlocked, maintaining the branching paths that are a feature of the game’s campaign. So, in the last twelve hours you have added two maps and four scenarios to every copy of Perdition’s Mouth: Abyssal Rift. These will be included for every backer who has pledged for a physical reward.

Our current stretch goal list, go unlock more content!
Our current stretch goal list, go unlock more content!

We’re really excited to see how many more stretch goals we can hit in the final hours of the campaign. The way things are going we might even get 1000 backers. That would be amazing! Timo’s going to be doing a live stream covering the final hour beginning at 2pm UTC on our campaign page. If you still aren’t quite decided this is your last chance to ask the game’s designer questions during the campaign.

A few people have asked about what we’re doing after the campaign and whether or not there will be a pledge manager. I’m happy to confirm that there will be. We’ll be using Backerkit again, as we have done for our previous campaigns

How will Backerkit work?

You will be able to add all of the add-ons and main campaign items to your pledge in Backerkit, as well as some limited stock of other things that are currently in our store. We will combine items to reduce shipping as much as possible. This means many items will not attract shipping higher than your pledge level but some will have a small fee where they’re being sent separately (for example, the Traitor Guard expansion will only be sent directly from Europe, whereas other items we have in our warehouses in USA and Australia as well).

It’s important to note that to add items in Backerkit you must also have one of the physical rewards from the campaign. To clarify, that does not mean that you necessarily need to pledge at those levels now but you must at least add a 'pledge upgrade' of the game, Hideout expansion or upgrade pack to your basket in Backerkit if you want any of the add-ons and you have not already pledged at one of those levels.

.

Why does this matter now?

Even in the last hours of the campaign, we’re seeing new people pledge at the $1 level. This is fine, there might be any one of a number of reasons for doing that but we want to make sure you’re aware of some things that might make you want to upgrade:

1. Money pledged during the campaign helps us hit our stretch goals. Money spent in the Backerkit does not.

2. The Upgrade Pack and the Scenario Pack will never be available at retail. We will continue to supply any excess stock that we have once the campaign is over from our own webstore but it is unlikely that they will be available in any future campaigns. Most importantly, the upgrade pack, even while stocks last, will cost more later than during this campaign, including in Backerkit - this is your only chance to get it at $29 - this is because we did our best to keep production and shipping costs down for you by things like the sticker correction for the board. Now that you’ve unlocked the extra gameboard, those savings are gone and we’re making a loss at the price we’re offering it at in the campaign. We really value our backers and try to do right by you but sometimes we suffer for it.

Now, go make me work harder and unlock some more stretch goals!
